Santiago Cathedral

The plan was for a 33 plus km day from Melida to Arca O Pino leaving me a 20km final day into Santiago. I can tell you the first 33km were agony every step of the way and I was harbouring thoughts of finding a bus stop to put an end to this madness.
I tried to keep some pace to make the day as short as possible, however was reduced to very slow down hill traverses even with the help of having two support poles, one borrowed from my good buddy "Machine".
I came upon a lovely couple from San Francisco who I had given some advise to back in Villafranca And as it turns out she is a nurse.
They were very concerned and even more kind as I was given great attention and enough drugs to rule me out of "Tour De France"
Well what can I say, the pain killers and anti inflammatory's started to kick in and I approached the days end with much more comfort.
Funny thing this Camino, after stopping for an ice cold Coca Cola and sock change I was toying with an idea in my gut. I wasn't inspired by my potential last night diggs and my inner voice was urging me on. I decided to take advantage of my now fortified state and surge on further than my daily destination, still toying with an a feeling in the back of my mind.
Long story short, I wanted to finish my Camino on my terms and I wasn't sure if I stopped my legs would have another day in them, so I kept on walking.
This more than verged on foolish but as the road markers passed me by one by one, 15km, 13km, 11km, I knew that I would finish the Camino today. Things were moving beautifully, with my earphones pumping out my favourite cheesy oldies I surged on to Santiago, thinking that I might make it by 8pm that night. The road was mine and mine alone for the first time in 27 days and I relished the moment. That is until on stopping with 9km to go and in need of fluids I found my self face down on the floor at a little bar on the outskirts of the city. I remember talking perhaps to myself even and then nothing until a delightful young couple and a very helpful and concerned bar owner brought me around and sat me up. Some water and a little food had me making sense again and with only a little bump on the head I kept going.
15hours and close to 54km later I finally called my relationship with this Camino officially over and collapsed on my hotel room bed and the clock told me it was 10pm on the 1st of October.
It's 6.30 am and I'm still quite norsious and very sore as I write this to you, however I will get my camera fixed today and I have two night of Pampering planned while I work out the next stages of this journey. So I'll take to you soon, love to all.
