I didn't feel drawn to attend the Pilgrims mass in the Cathedral this morning or visit the remains of St James (Santiago) for that matter as I have had these experiences the previous year.
You couldn't get more of a contrast of experiences from last years tight group of friends marching into Santiago with sunlight and excitement overflowing in the Cathedral Square, such an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and euphoria. Whereas this year i entered the square alone in the rain without having forged a tight connection with any specific group. Definitely a more personal solitary journey this time and with a clear awareness of an end to what had drawn me here in the first place. With every step I took on my Camino I felt like I was letting go of the past and any connection to this magical place, so it is with complete gratitude and no regrets that I leave. This is a shot of one of the many gilded ornate sections of the numerous chapels inside the Cathedral. They have a huge incense ball the size of a small family car that swings through the centre of the church during mass. Definitely a spectacle worth checking out.
I am in the process of checking out available walks in Italy on the Amalfi coast and Cinque Terre to continue this little adventure further. However I am still unable to walk unaided as yet and my legs ache through the night making sleep spasmodic at best. The price of pushing a 49 year old body to breaking point. I have my camera back in action so will send some pics later today.
that's a cool pic :) M
